I think there’s several answers to this question. Sharing these experiences first helps the person who shares them. Why? In I Peter 3:15, Peter tells his readers to “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” We get to store up in our hearts all those wonderful moments when God has been there for us. So, when we’re going through a dark period, we can go back and reflect on those for encouragement, to know that God will help us again. It’s also a legacy for the people who experience these signs of love from God. You can share them with your loved ones, just as you’d share any story from your life, but these have more eternal impact. Also, throughout the gospels, Jesus tells those he heals and his disciples to be faithful to testify to what they’ve witnessed or received from him. We’re just being faithful followers by passing along the good news that we’ve experienced first hand.

Next, it helps those we share it with. I can’t count the number of times that a friend has come along side me and shared a story about a trial that God has helped her through, similar to one I myself am going through. It gives me such hope and encouragement, knowing that God can help in such a way. Also, my faith is strengthened, with even more evidence in the goodness of my God. And that’s just for people who are already Christians.

When you share your stories with people who don’t already know Jesus, they want to know how they too can experience this sort of love. When somebody tells you about this great guy Jesus and how he’s made a big difference in your life, don’t you want to know him too?
